Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
~james 1:2,3

My comfort in my suffering is this:
Your promise preserves my life.
~psalm 119:50

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
~1 corinthians 1:3,4

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
~1 peter 5:8-10

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
~1 peter 1:6,7

Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.
~romans 5:3,4

But those who suffer he delivers in their suffering; he speaks to them in their affliction.
~job 36:15

this past year i've felt a lot of pain.
some of the pain was God bringing to light many of my faults so that i could become aware of them and let Him take control of them.
others involved changes that were bought about either in my life or the lives of those close to me. these changes were not bad, just difficult for me to accept and thus caused me much pain.
i can truly testify that while in pain, in trial, in suffering, in troubles, that God is much closer and gentler than any other time. these verses speak true for me. they are what i hold on to when life starts to move in a direction that affects me in a negative way. i have hope in Him that He is in control and He is the author and perfecter of my faith. i still have a long way to go but as long as i hold onto Him then He will take care of me and bring me through this. :)
